Lucas here: I hope you are doing well! It has been a while since I wanted to take VK-X’s upcoming public launch on April, 8th opportunity to publish a short article dedicated to our VK design chronology.
The VK series is the first headphone design we ever launched with a first product, the VK-1 back in 2013. For us, this serie is the definition of what high-end headphones should look like, a definition that relies on 3 fundamental pillars: Timelessness, Heritage, Technology. It was designed in collaboration with designer Eugeni Quitllet.
What does “VK” stands for?

The VK-1, as I said, was the genesis of aëdle. They were the first headphones ever assembled in France (our workshop was located in Brittany at the time) out of such noble materials: Genuine Lambskin Leather and Aircraft Grade Machined Aluminum. Its timeless design was acclaimed internationally and won a Red Dot Design Award in 2015. Both production and sales of the VK-1 were stopped in early 2017. With the VK-2, we updated the VK-1 based on all what we had learned from the VK-1 experience and from our users, while keeping the exact same design. The new conception made the VK handier (foldable flat earpads, removable earpads, headband stitches on the sides), improved its solidity, and featured a sound signature a bit more neutral / audiophile. The VK-X is the natural wireless successor of the VK-2. Very few modifications were made in terms of design, except :
- The addition of minimal buttons and LEDs to control and understand the new wireless features
- The removal and replacement of the 3.5mm jack port with a USB-C port
- An over-ear earpad design instead of an on-ear design to improve comfort and isolation
